Dental Examinations

Dental examinations are essential when it comes to maintaining good oral health and well being.  Since most oral health problems are preventable, it’s important to visit your dentist for regular checkups and x-rays. Early detection and intervention is not only less damaging to your teeth but it can also help keep the treatment options simple and more affordable.

During the dental examination we will screen you for gum disease by taking measurements of your gums and recording the amount of plaque build up on your teeth and determine whether your gums bleed or not.

We check all your teeth visually for tooth decay paying particular attention around existing restorations like fillings, crowns and any bridge work you may have.

We may take dental x-rays to evaluate areas that aren’t visible to the naked eye. We will assess you for bone loss, periodontal disease, tooth decay and other oral conditions that may be present, but cause no painful symptoms.

In order to treat you safely we will always ask you about your general medical health and life style factors. Whist cancers in your mouth are quite rare we will always check for any abnormalities and discuss with you any concerns you may have.

It’s important during this examination that you ask any questions and discuss any concerns that you may have. It’s a good opportunity to mention any cosmetic treatments like implants, veneers, orthodontic straightening or whitening of your teeth that you may be interested in.

Our dental therapists will also review your diet, brushing and flossing techniques and help and advise you if any improvements may be beneficial.

You only have one smile. Look after it for life
